Our certificates and diplomas cover a wide range of skills, from nail technology, facials, make up, waxing, lash and brow treatments through to body massage, facial and body electrotherapy, epilation and spa treatments.

Qualifications in Beauty Therapy, Nail Services or Spa Therapy are suitable for those interested or already working in the industry.

There are broader options for people with some experience, and in-depth qualifications for senior members of staff.

To gain your certificate or diploma in Beauty Therapy, Nail Service or Spa Therapy you need to show you have a particular set of skills. You usually work with your training provider or college to review your current skills and find the best way to gain new ones – perhaps by trying new things at work or by studying.

You will learn at work or at a training centre with a realistic working environment. By the end of your qualification, you will be demonstrating your skills on paying clients.

You will be assessed as you learn. For each unit your assessor watches and asks questions as you perform a task, look at a portfolio of work that you’ve built as formal evidence of your learning. Then they can confirm you have the corrects skills to do the treatments well.

LEVEL 1
The Level 1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy will suit you if you’re just starting out in the industry. You might still be at school or working as a trainee or therapists assistant in a salon.

You need to complete 11 credits from the core units:
Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety.

Contribute to the development of effective working relationships

Prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas

You will also need to choose 8 credits from the following options:

• Assist with salon reception duties
• Assist with facial skincare treatments
• Assist with day make-up
• Assist with nail services

LEVEL 2
Level 2 is ideal if you want to become a Beauty Therapist or Nail Technician.

At this level you can choose from 3 diplomas:

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General route)
• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Make-up route)
• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services

For the Make-Up and General Beauty Therapy routes, you complete a set amount of core units and a number of optional units from a range that includes:

• Promote additional services or products to clients
• Fulfil salon reception duties
• Provide make-up services

LEVEL 3
Level 3 is ideal if you’ve worked in a salon, spa or similar job for some time, or have gained your level 2 Beauty Therapy/Nail Services qualification. You may be a senior member of staff. You want to demonstrate specialist skills, focusing on salon or services.

At this level you choose from 5 diplomas:

• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General route)
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Massage route)
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Make-up route)
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Spa Therapy
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services

Each Diploma comprises a number of core and optional units, depending on your area of specialism. These cover a wide range, including:

• Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
• Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
• Provide body massage treatments
• Design and create fashion and photographic make-up
• Provide body wrapping and flotation treatments
• Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder
